After the fall,
Welcome to Earth little space rock...
Florance woke to a massive migraine and the muffled sounds of voices echoing all around him.
Where I am?
How did I get here?
Who are these people?
It hurt to think, the not so subtle feeling of sledgehammers pounding away at the insides of his head making it impossible to properly distinguish his surroundings as his bright yellow orbs slowly blinked open to observe the cloud masked sky.
He shifted, pulling himself up as much as his small aching body would allow, fear beginning to invade his senses as the voices around him began to grow louder. He flinched away as someone reached out a paw toward him, his breathing slowing beginning to become more labored as he desperately tried to get his bearings.
Why can’t I see straight?
Why does everything hurt?
I can’t…
I need…
He began to shake as he struggled to his paws, Looking around wildly for a break in the blurry crowd around him as panic seized him, Stumbling over his paws as his vision swam in front of him. He was so confused, he needed to get out.
RUN.
That single thought suddenly appeared in his mind, like a beacon of light breaking through the foggy haze of disorientation.
RUN.
That single action could save him from this, this fear and this pain. He turned, finding enough clarity in his vision to spot a slim opening in the mass of unfamiliar faces.
RUN.
He staggered forward, breaking through the crowd, slowly catching his feet underneath him till he was sprinting as fast as he could. The lingering feeling of paws raking against his fur encouraging him to keep going. He ran past buildings whose signs he could not read, past street posts displaying unfamiliar names, past people whose faces all looked the same.
What is going on?
This can’t be home.
Where is home?
Why does the air suddenly feel so much heavier against my shoulders?
Thoughts were bounced around the inside of his aching skull like ping pong balls as he tore through what might have been a small mountainside town and out into the open woods. He ran and ran for what felt like an eternity, only the sound of his own frantically beating heart registering in his ears as he raced through the trees, fog obscuring his view.
Finally, his shaking legs gave out and he crashed to the ground. He rolled a good few feet, leaves and dirt clinging to his fur as he finally came to stop, his sides heaving and his breathing ragged as he stared listlessly across the ground in front of him, tears leaking out of his eyes as fear shook him.
What did I do to deserve this?
What did I do?
What…
What do I do now?
